The recent reports from Madrid claim that Florentino Perez is not satisfied with Manuel Pellegrinin’s work this season, which is something we could have expected from Perez but these also suggest that Rafa Benitez is seen as one of the favourites to replace him. Well, we can only pray this doesn’t happen. Yes, Rafa had a lot of success with Valencia and he knows Primera inside out but what he has done with Liverpool should prevent even second division clubs from taking him into consideration, let alone Real Madrid.

Due to the heavy spending in the summer, Real Madrid finally
look like serious title contenders and even the five-point gap behind Barcelona is not the
reason for concern. Les Merengues did lose in Bilbao and thus allowed the fierce rivals to
create even bigger advantage at the top but there has been no big pressure on
the team following the defeat at San Mames and that is a testament of the progress

Some
people may have forgotten that Karim Benzema was a part of the trio of big name
signings Real Madrid have signed last summer since he is the only one who is
yet to prove his worth to the team. Kaka and Ronaldo have been world-class
players even before arriving to Santiago Bernabeu and they certainly didn’t

Frenchman, who found it hard being a fringe player at Los Merengues. The
three-week injury lay-off for Gonzalo Higuain may be the perfect chance for
Benzema to command a starting place and finally show Real fans what a great
player he is.

The
heavy summer spending is finally producing results since Los Merengues are
starting to look like the team capable of challenging for honours but there

out for the season, Pellegrini desperately need a replacement for the
Portuguese, as well as for a couple of underperformers in the squad.

Real Madrid are the perfect proof that money cannot buy you success since
Los Merengues are struggling to keep up with Barcelona despite buying players like
Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema in the summer, although Manuel Pellegrini’s side have shown some improvement lately. The
6:0 win over Zaragoza was something that Los Blancos fans had been waiting for quite a while but even such a good result will mean nothing unless Real can keep up the rich vein of form.
